Karen Bowden, RHIA - President
With over 25 years of Hospital Administrative experience, Ms. Bowden managed fiscal and clinical operations in large academic teaching facilities in Pittsburgh and Boston, most recently serving as Vice President of Patient Administrative Services in a large academic Medical Center in Boston. In early 2001, Ms. Bowden began Revenue Enhancement Strategies, Inc. and has earned regional recognition as an expert in finding sources of "new" revenue. Ms. Bowden has developed and implemented denial management systems to track, report, prevent and appeal denied claims. Expert knowledge of local payer systems has given Ms. Bowden and Revenue Enhancement Strategies, Inc. the leading edge in implementing successful strategies that decrease denied claims and increase net revenue. Ms. Bowden is a regular speaker at the Massachusetts Hospital Association, HFMA and MAPAM. She earned her B.S. in Health Records Administration from the University of Pittsburgh, graduating summa cum laude.
Glen R. Johnson - Partner
Mr. Johnson has 17 years experience in healthcare information technology management. Experienced at working in large integrated delivery networks, hospitals, physician practices, payers and healthcare information technology vendors, he has the breath of knowledge to understand the challenges faced in highly complex interdependent healthcare systems. As Director of Information Services and later Regional Information Officer at a large integrated delivery network, Mr. Johnson successfully completed several large scale financial and clinical system projects. Also as a successful General Manager of a business unit at a major Healthcare Information Technology Vendor, he brought a new product to market with a $1 million dollars in sales in less than 18 months. Mr. Johnson holds a BS Computer Science from Westfield State College.
Karen Hoppe - Senior Associate
Ms. Hoppe has over 13 years of Hospital Patient Accounting Management experience with an emphasis on Managed Care. She has provided root cause analysis and developed operational improvements throughout the revenue cycle to increase cash flow and reduce denials. In addition, she has developed and implemented the process for underpayment recovery in a major teaching hospital. Her achievements include successful implementation, training and management of electronic pre-registration workflow, claims management systems, contract management systems, and imaging systems.
Karen McMasters, RN, BSN, CPC - Senior Associate
Ms. McMasters has over 15 years of healthcare experience including clinical nursing, medical record auditing and coding. Prior to joining Revenue Enhancement Strategies, she was an outpatient coding and audit manager at a major medical center in Boston for several years. Her years of experience in the chart and bill auditing field span over a decade. Her professional nursing career includes clinical experience in oncology and medical surgical nursing at a major teaching facility in Worcester, MA. Her achievements include implementation of and training for outpatient coding and audit in several outpatient clinics, participation in an APC Task Force and Chargemaster team along with coordination of a centralized audit and denial response team in the Medical Records Department. She earned her BS in Nursing from Fitchburg State College in Fitchburg, MA and earned her coding certification from the American Academy of Professional Coders.
Christina Brown - Associate
Ms. Brown has over 15 years of healthcare experience, specializing in the quality improvement of front-end operations. She has been directly responsible for ambulatory operations, pre-certification, training, and International business relations in a major teaching hospital. Prior to joining the Revenue Enhancement Strategies team, Christina traveled abroad to provide healthcare consulting services in her areas of expertise. Her achievements include planning, implementation, and training for Registration and clinical systems, as well as the re-engineering of front-end processes, to reduce denials and capture revenue. Christina graduated magna cum laude from Newbury College, earning her degree in Business Management.
